NHS referral service
If you have been referred for more treatments or tests, you can check on the referral using our online form. You will need a letter of referral from your GP if you would like to see a private specialist or consultant.
Hospital Referrals and Appointments
Managing Referral Appointments
- If referred through the NHS e-Referral service, you can book, view, reschedule, or cancel your first appointment at nhs.uk/referrals.
- Further appointments for an existing referral must be managed with the healthcare provider.
- NHS App:
- You can manage your first referral appointment in the NHS App or NHS website.
- Must be 16 or over to use the NHS App for this service.
Booking Your Appointment
- Log into the NHS App or website.
- Navigate to Your health > Upcoming and past appointments > Hospital referrals and appointments.
- Select the referral, clinic, and appointment time.
- Confirm and book.
Rescheduling Your Appointment
- Log into the NHS App or website.
- Go to Your health > Upcoming and past appointments > Hospital referrals and appointments.
- Select the appointment and click Ask to reschedule appointment.
- Choose a new date, time, and reason.
- Review and submit the request.
Cancelling Your Appointment
- Cancelling may remove you from the waiting list for care. If this happens, you’ll need a new referral.
- To cancel:
- Log into the NHS App or website.
- Go to Your health > Upcoming and past appointments > Hospital referrals and appointments.
- Select the appointment and click Ask to cancel appointment.
- Provide a reason, review, and submit the cancellation.
