How to Request a Repeat Prescription

You can request your repeat prescription quickly and easily in the following ways:

  • NHS App: The fastest and easiest way to order your medication. Use the NHS App or logging into the NHS website
  • Patient Access: Log into your Patient Access account to order online.
  • In Writing: Visit reception or post the tear-off slip from the right-hand side of your last prescription. You can also email (bnssg.admin.bmc@nhs.net).

Electronic Prescribing Service

Save time by signing up for the electronic prescription service:

  • What It Does: Sends your prescription directly to your chosen pharmacy.
  • How to Sign Up: Ask reception to help you register for this service.

Benefits:

  • No need to visit the surgery.
  • Collect your medication from your preferred pharmacy.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse or practice pharmacist, at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Prescription Collection Times

Due to high demand, please allow enough time for your prescription to be processed.

  • Requests received before 11:00: Ready after 15:00, 7–10 working days later.
  • Additional Time: Weekends and public holidays may extend this timeline.

Top Tip:
Many local pharmacies can order and collect your repeat prescription for you. Ask your pharmacist if they offer this service.

Help with NHS Prescription Costs

In England, most prescription items are dispensed free for those who qualify. This includes:

  • People on certain benefits or the NHS Low Income Scheme.
  • Age exemptions (e.g., children under 16 or over 60).
  • Specific medical conditions.

Prescription Fees and Prepayment Certificates

If you pay for prescriptions, here are the current charges in England:

  • Per item: £9.65
  • 12-month Prepayment Certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

Save Money:
If you need four or more items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, a PPC may save you money.

Nominating a pharmacy

When you order a repeat prescription online, you will have to nominate a pharmacy to prepare your prescription and for you to pick it up from.

You can nominate a pharmacy by using the NHS App or logging into the NHS website using a web browser. A high street pharmacy is where you collect your prescriptions in person. If you have chosen an online-only pharmacy, then they will send your prescription in the post.

If you order your prescription online:

  • You will no longer need to collect paper prescriptions from our surgery.
  • Your nominated pharmacy will have your prescriptions ready to collect until you change or remove them.
