Appointments System

All appointments with a GP are now made using our online service Patient Triage (click here to access)

  • All GP appointment requests, whether made online or over the telephone, go onto our Clinical Assessment Screen. If you would like assistance with making an appointment request, our health navigators will ask questions about your condition and needs and document it for the GP.  All requests, however they are made,  are treated equally and appear on our Clinical Assessment screen in the order in which they are received.

If an appointment is necessary, the triaging clinician will make a decision, based on the information you provide, on the best way to offer this and the clinical urgency of the request. All requests for appointments are viewed within 24 hours. If your symptoms are severe, change or you believe your concern needs a more immediate clinical response than this, then please telephone the surgery and let the reception team know this directly.

Appointments with a Nurse

Please note that appointments with the nursing team (e.g. for long term condition reviews, screening, dressings) are bookable directly by telephone by calling 01179549828. Please call the surgery directly to book.

We work hard to make as many appointments available as we can. However, demand for appointments outstrips supply.  Please try to assist us by considering other sources of advice and support, so that appointments are available for those who need them.

NHS 111 gives good advice about colds, sore throats, coughs and other common ailments, your local pharmacist can advise you about these issues too, and injuries should be dealt with at A&E department or Minor Injuries Unit.

Home Visits

Requests for a home visit need to be made in the same way as detailed above. They will be clinically triaged and processed in the same way as other requests for an appointment. The doctor will telephone you back to discuss your symptoms with you, before the visit is arranged.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Cancellations & Reminders

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

More than 15 million general practice appointments are being wasted each year because patients do not turn up and fail to warn surgeries that they will not be attending.

There are around 307 million sessions scheduled with GPs, nurses, therapists and other practice staff every year and 5% – one in twenty – are missed without enough notice to invite other patients. That works out as around 15.4 million missed slots.

Of these, around 7.2million are with busy family doctors, which adds up to more than 1.2 million GP hours wasted each year – the equivalent of over 600 GPs working full time for a year.

Each appointment costs an average of £30, putting the total cost to the NHS at more than £216million pounds on top of the disruption for staff and fellow patients that would pay for:

  • The annual salary of 2,325 full time GPs
  • 224, 640 cataract operations
  • 58,320 hip replacement operations
  • 216,000 drug treatment courses for Alzheimer’s
  • The annual salary of 8, 424 full time community nurses
